Boyle did a spectacular job in his interpretation of the movie inspired by the true story. Survival and Solitude is what this movie is all about. In order to free yourself from pain and hopelessness, one would have to act the unthinkable, opposing the norms of a society under unfortunate circumstances.

This movie had me locked in my seat from start to finish. For a film that primarily relied on 1 character and one scene it was very well done. This was a film that flew by unlike a movie like Castaway that just seemed to go on for ever. The flashbacks and hallucinations were all very well done. James Franco was amazing. My only critisism is that it did not do a very good job of relaying to the viewer how long it really took to cut through his arm with that tiny knife. I guess I will have to read the book to figure that one out. Overall an amazing movie, great story which is made even better because it's based on truth.

The beginning seemed extremely rushed and the middle was very long. Not a walk away and feel cheery; more like a "moral-of-the-[true]-story" and be grateful movie.
