Don’t listen to the nay-sayers, this movie is great! Congrats to Amy Madigan for getting her very well deserved Oscar for best supporting actress, but why was this film nominated for just this category? (how about best screenplay? best editing? or production design? anyone, anyone?) It was both creepy and funny at times, one of my all-time favorites! (also liked Conan‘s spoof for the Oscars opening, what a laugh… genius!)

Excellent movie with excellent acting, Amy Madigan is superb in her role as evil Aunt Gladys (I hope she gets a Gilden Globe for her performance!). The final 10 minutes are unexpectedly hilarious, a welcome contrast to the usual horror-movie ending where the villain is resurrected and defeated again for the 23rd time or so. Well done!

Stephen King meets Agatha Christie, with a hint of Indiana Jones and The Mummy. Great movie with excellent acting overall. Cary Christopher as Alex is only a shadow during the first half, but clearly owns the movie in its second half along with his evil aunt Gladys. I love the multi-perspective nature of the first half, filling in one piece of the puzzle at a time, to set the stage for the second half. The conclusion is quite interesting but logical (little Alex paid attention), it must have been a lot of fun for the kids to film this. Perfect cinematography and music score. Highly recommended movie as long as you are open for something unconventional!

I went to see it because Rotten Tomatoes 🍅 gave it a fresh rating... I was curious all through the 1st act... 2nd act reveals what's going on and I hated it after that. Everyone in the theatre was laughing... so they were either twisted or this "horror" movie was that terrible.
