This whole film is anti-climactic. It reminds me of the old commercial saying "Where's the Beef" You keep waiting for something to happen but it never does. Like the Godfather 3 the Woman is the darkest of the bunch. She alludes to her criminal family. It is a very interesting sub plot that is never developed and therefore a waste even mentioning. It's part of the overall tease of the film that keeps you watching and hoping. The storyline is much like a a stew. It just simmers along for 2 hrs without anything every really interesting happening. It just teases the viewer a few times and then ends. For being the most Violent Year in New York's History the film's title is really an Oxymoron. C

just saw this film as i start watching a most violent year i was ready to be disappointed and never was it a great film and if you love drama's it right up your alley, and i emphasize just don't listen to people low rating comments below giving ridiculous reasons why they didn't like the movie, giving the simple copy out it being slow typical of a person when they except more guns a blazing in a movie, and as well not liking it because of other reasons which is oxy moron in it self of why, and for the love of god don't listen to that and see it for yourself and remember it a drama which in film is the essence of acting check it out and form your own opinion

very realistic period story. oddly, cinematography near realistic in lighting, except it all looked too dark, even day shots looked like bad 'color film' or 'fake moonlit night film' shots, making it difficult to watch, but appreciated its non-glamorous somber realism.

One of the best made and directed movies I've seen in awhile. The verisimilitude they captured was outstanding and every actor( lead & supporting) nailed their part. Why would anyone rate this less than 4 stars is beyond me. They obviously aren't paying attention to the subtlety and nuance the director brings to his craft......
