Having seen the first one and having attended a preview of the first 13 minutes in IMAX 3D a little while back, I was disappointed in this one.
Whether we agreed or not with Spartan ways, the 1st movie made a good job of showing they trully believed in their way of life and were fully committed to it.
In this case, Themistokles and maybe 1 or 2 others seem to be the only ones truly committed to their belief in democraty (although even that was not always convincing) while most other characters seem to be more along the lines of "As long as I get to live, its OK to surrender". Not a bad movie, but lacked character development, sub plots, ending was predictable. Why wasn't the Spartan Queen as thirsty for revenge and justice as she was in 300 ?

Going in ya know its a blood bath but it merged the 1st movie together seamlessly and the effects were expertly done. I liked it. Its not meant for the A. awards.

Good thing I saw the first one yesterday to understand this one. I like how it followed right on with he first one so you could feel the continuity. Lots of blood and gore, but expected it after the first one, thank goodness.

If you want a blood fest with no historical storyline all done in tones of grey, blue and crimson then then is the movie for you. The original"300" was closer to the mark but this one relied totally on violence, over-the-top CGI effects that seems to prevalent in movies today when the producer has very little to put into the film. 2 of 5 stars just for effort. 3D effects were acceptable but not on a par with "Avatar".
